mountain lodge
Cristallina, Switzerland

competition: 1999
project design: luca gazzaniga architetti with carlo ceccolini

The new mountain lodge is situated right on the seat of the Cristallina pass but placed to one side and “cut” so as to not impede the natural flow and so as to not block the magical moment of reaching the summit and seeing the view of the valley opposite. With the pitches of the roof imploded that descend between the sides, also to mitigate the impact of the volume, and with facades in the same stone present on the site, it is visible from both sides, almost as if to mark the point of arrival with its presence. The form and materials do not enter into contrast with the natural ones of the site, the architecture is not a repetition of nature but a continuation.
