This scheme draws its strength from its relationship with the landscape. Arriving from the south, the contrast between the temperate, sub-tropical micro-climate and the giant mountains that are always covered in snow, is particularly attractive. The lakes are perceived as the sea, like the Mediterranean to which the local culture also refers in terms of the langauge and features of the vernacular architecture. The Mediterranean in the Alps is taken as an abstract theme. The design is defined around relationships that respond to movements along coordinated axes, the flow of water from the mountains to the lake, the flow of traffic from Ascona to Locarno.
